OTG & Prescription Ski Goggle Guide
Wear glasses on the mountain? You have two routes: an over-the-glasses (OTG) goggle that fits over your frames, or a prescription insert that sits inside the goggle. Here's how to choose.
Can I wear BOLD goggles over glasses?
Yes. These BOLD goggles are built to fit over prescription glasses: Morningside OTG, Rambler OTG, Morningside Max OTG. Notches in the frame let your glasses sit comfortably inside. Each OTG frame matches its base model's fit.
Not OTG: Youth, Morningside XS, Morningside Low Bridge (Asian Fit), Rambler Low Bridge (Asian Fit).
Choose your route
Find the right OTG model
Pick an OTG goggle the same way you'd pick any goggle: by face size.
| Model | Face fit | Frame | Low Bridge | Replacement lenses | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Morningside OTG | Standard | Frameless | No (standard bridge) | Morningside lenses | $179 |
| Rambler OTG | Standard to roomier | Traditional frame | No (standard bridge) | Rambler lenses | $179 |
| Morningside Max OTG | Wide | Frameless | No (standard bridge) | Morningside Max lenses | $199 |
- Average face: Morningside OTG or Rambler OTG. The Rambler has a little more room side to side (compare them).
- Wide or larger face, or larger glasses frames: Morningside Max OTG.
- Narrow face: there is no XS OTG. The Morningside OTG is the closest fit, or skip wearing glasses underneath: the Morningside XS with a SportRx prescription insert is a verified route.
Will my glasses fit?
It depends on the width and thickness of your frames. Slimmer frames fit most easily; larger frames need a roomier goggle like the Max OTG. The best test is at home: try the goggle with your glasses and your helmet. Free 30-day returns cover a swap if it isn't right.
OTG vs prescription insert
OTG goggle
- You wear your own glasses under the goggle.
- No extra purchase beyond the goggle.
- Easiest if your frames fit inside comfortably.
- Your frames sit against the foam, so fit depends on their size.
Prescription insert
- A prescription lens set that sits inside the goggle, behind the main lens.
- No glasses arms under the foam.
- A separate purchase, made to your prescription by an insert maker.
- Fit depends on the insert and the goggle model, so check before you order.
Neither route is right for everyone.
Prescription inserts from SportRx
SportRx has fitted BOLD's Morningside, Morningside Max, Morningside XS and Rambler goggles and lists those models in its prescription-insert database. If you prefer an insert instead of wearing glasses under the foam, order through SportRx's Prescription Snow Goggle Insert page and enter your BOLD model when you customize it.
For our OTG, Low Bridge and Youth goggles, SportRx verification was provided for the base model families only. Prescription inserts may be an option, but confirm the exact model before ordering. Email info@boldouterwear.com and we'll help.
Need Low Bridge fit and prescription correction?
You need two fit features BOLD does not currently combine in one OTG frame. Our Low Bridge (Asian Fit) goggles are not OTG, and our OTG goggles have a standard nose bridge.
- Option 1: an OTG goggle with a standard bridge, worn over your glasses.
- Option 2: a Low Bridge goggle with a prescription insert may be an option, but insert compatibility should be confirmed for that specific model before ordering.
Email info@boldouterwear.com and we'll help you decide which route works for you.
Which replacement lenses fit OTG models?
OTG goggles take the same replacement lenses as their base model:
- Morningside OTG takes Morningside lenses.
- Rambler OTG takes Rambler lenses.
- Morningside Max OTG takes Morningside Max lenses.
For which lens to use in which light, see the Ski Goggle Lens & VLT Guide.
